So I read 8 books in January. Considering my target for this year doubled from 12 to 24, this was pretty good going. They’ve been a wide range and I thought I would share my tweet sized reviews in case you may be interested in any:
Circe
Madeleine Miller
The main character spends a lot of her time alone on an island teaching herself witchcraft, which, although this was the exact opposite of what the book wants to convey, seems pretty sick
Crazy Rich Asians
Kevin Kwan
No matter how many times a girl can tweet iterations of “Capitalism sucks!!”, she can still get sucked into essentially what is money porn. Pretty enjoyable money porn though.
The Miniaturist
Jessie Burton
I may have to start writing books based on weird sh*t in museums, although I don’t know if anyone wants to know the story of the donated douche I once saw.
Promising Young Women
Caroline O’Donoghue

I Owe You One
Sophie Kinsella
if you are going to write a character who likes fixing things, you owe us to name them something other than Fixie
Convenience Store Woman
Sayaka Murata
prose that feels almost fluorescent although ultimately shies away from dealing at the darker issues at hand. also only book where I have actively wanted a character to murder
The Pursuit of Love
Nancy Mitford

The Ocean at the End of The Lane
Neil Gaiman
one of the most terrifying villains I’ve read, considering it is sort of a sentient canvas? idk it somehow makes sense when you read it
Anyway hope you enjoy reading!
